How to integrate MailerPress with Easy Digital Downloads

Connect Easy Digital Downloads to MailerPress to add a newsletter checkbox to your checkout. Customers who tick it (they “opt in”) are added to MailerPress with the lists and tags you choose. Tags are labels you can use to group and target contacts.

This integration requires MailerPress Pro 2.1.0 or later and an active Easy Digital Downloads plugin.

Set up the checkout checkbox

  1. Go to MailerPress > Integrations.
  2. Open the Third-party extensions tab. Click E-commerce to show only the store integrations.
  3. On the Easy Digital Downloads card, click Configure.
  4. Check Enable checkout opt-in checkbox.
  5. In Subscribe text, enter the text shown next to the checkbox. The default text is “I would like to receive exclusive emails with discounts and product information.”
  6. In Assign Lists and Assign Tags, choose the lists and tags to give to customers who opt in.
  7. Click Save.

If Easy Digital Downloads isn’t active, the settings page shows Easy Digital Downloads is not installed or activated.

The checkbox appears in the personal information section of the checkout, with the email and name fields. It is unchecked by default. If the checkout reloads after an error, the customer’s choice is kept.

What happens after the purchase

  • When the order is created, MailerPress saves the customer’s consent on the order: the date and the checkbox text they saw.
  • Once the order is complete, MailerPress creates the contact, or updates it if the email address already exists. The contact gets the order email address and the first and last name entered at checkout.
  • The contact is added to the lists and tags you selected. If you don’t select any list, MailerPress uses your default list.
  • If sign-up confirmation (double opt-in) is enabled, a new contact stays Pending until they click the link in the confirmation email.
  • Each order adds the customer only once. Customers who don’t tick the box are not added to MailerPress.

This integration has no custom field mapping and no automation triggers. To follow up with these contacts, use the lists and tags you assigned, for example in a segment (a group of contacts selected by rules) or in an automation that starts when a tag or list is added.
