This guide shows how to import Brevo contacts into MailerPress: lists, contact attributes and contacts. It is a one-time import: MailerPress does not stay in sync with Brevo afterwards.
Importing from Brevo requires MailerPress Pro 2.1.0 or later. Only imports from MailPoet and Newsletter are free.
Before you start
- Get a Brevo API key from SMTP & API, in your Brevo account menu. The SMTP key does not work.
- Brevo already configured as a sending service in MailerPress? Its saved API key is reused automatically.
- In that case, blocklisted (unsubscribed) contacts are not imported.
- Otherwise, decide now whether to include them: the option only appears next to the API key.
- Back up your site, or try the import on a staging site first.
- Import only people who agreed to receive your emails.
What gets imported
| Brevo | MailerPress |
|---|---|
| Lists | Lists, with each contactโs lists |
| Contact attributes | Custom fields, with each contactโs values |
| FIRSTNAME and LASTNAME (or PRENOM and NOM) | First name and last name |
| Contacts | Contacts |
| Contacts in no list | Your default list |
| Not imported | Tags (the Tags line always shows 0), segments, folders, campaigns, automations, forms, templates, statistics |
Lists with the same name as existing ones are reused. Contacts are matched by email address, so there are no duplicates.
Import your contacts
If Brevo is already configured as a sending service, it is already connected: skip steps 4 to 6.
- Go to MailerPress > Tools > Migrations.
- Select Platforms.
- In Import from platform, choose Brevo.
- In the Connect Brevo form, paste your key in API key.
- Check Include unsubscribed contacts to also import blocklisted contacts.
- Click Save API key. The number of records appears under Data to migrate.
- Under Data to migrate, check Lists, Custom fields and Contacts as needed.
- Click Start migration.
- Wait for Migration completed. The import runs in the background, so you can leave the page.
Keep Custom fields checked if you want the attribute values on your contacts.
Contact statuses
| Brevo contact | Include unsubscribed contacts unchecked | Include unsubscribed contacts checked |
|---|---|---|
| Not blocklisted | Subscribed | Subscribed |
| Blocklisted | Not imported (counted as skipped) | Unsubscribed |
- An existing contact with the same email gets the Brevo status. An unsubscribed contact can become Subscribed again.
- Brevo contacts are never imported as Pending, so no confirmation email is sent.
- Automations that start with the Contact Subscribed trigger can run for imported contacts. Pause them first if needed.
After the import
- Open a few contacts and check their status, lists and custom fields.
- Skipped counts blocklisted contacts left out. Errors counts contacts that could not be saved.
- Changes made in Brevo later are not copied. Run the migration again to bring them over.
- If the migration does not progress, set up a server cron job.
Next, you can keep Brevo to deliver your emails: see Send your campaigns with Brevo in MailerPress and the Brevo integration page. For all sources and options, see Migrate your contacts to MailerPress with the Migration Center.
