MailerPress can identify contacts who have not engaged for a chosen period and mark them as inactive. This feature is available in the free plugin. Inactive contacts are excluded from ordinary sends, which target subscribed contacts.
Set up automatic inactive contact detection
The MailerPress > Audience > Engagement screen requires permission to manage settings.
- Open MailerPress > Audience > Engagement and turn on Enable automatic inactive status.
- Set the Period unit and Period length. Units are days, weeks, months, or years.
- Set the Batch size, then select Save settings.
Automatic detection is enabled by default, with a period of 1 year and a batch size of 1,000. Batch size can be set from 1 to 5,000. MailerPress treats a month as 30 days and a year as 365 days. When enabled, detection runs daily in background batches; there is no manual run button on this screen.
Understand when a contact becomes inactive
MailerPress evaluates subscribed contacts whose latest relevant activity is older than the chosen period. It considers the most recent tracked open or click, the last subscription, and the contactโs creation date. All of these must fall before the cutoff. Sending an email without a tracked open or click does not restart the period.
A qualifying contact receives an inactive status, date, and reason.
Review and change inactive contacts
1. Open the contact list and select the Inactive tab. The Last engagement column helps you review activity; contact details also show the Inactive status.
2. To change several contacts, select them, choose Edit contacts, then use Set as inactive or Set as subscribed.
MailerPress Pro can also show inactive status in segmentation.
Send an optional re-engagement email
The one-time re-engagement option is disabled by default. If you enable it, the daily process sends one email to inactive contacts that have not previously received a re-engagement email.
Set the Email subject and Email content. Add [reengagement_link]Button text[/reengagement_link] to the content to provide a confirmation link. You can use Use designed email template, then Design template or Edit design, to style the message.
Clicking the confirmation link restores the contact to Subscribed. Separately, general engagement tracking can reactivate an inactive contact after a tracked open or click.
