Tags are labels you add to contacts to describe them, such as โCustomerโ, โWebinar attendeeโ or โInterested in SEOโ. Unlike lists, which people subscribe to, tags are for your own organization: use them to filter contacts, build segments (groups of contacts that match your conditions) and run automations (emails and actions triggered automatically). Tags are included in the free MailerPress plugin.
Add a tag
- Go to MailerPress > Audience > Contact Tags and click Add a tag.
- Enter a Name (it must be unique).
- Click Save.

You can also create a tag wherever you see Select or create tag, for example when adding a contact or importing a CSV file.
Understand the tag table
- Shortcode: a code in square brackets, such as
[mailerpress_optin tags="5"], that displays a subscription form and applies this tag to new subscribers. Click Copy shortcode and paste it into a page. To choose the list, add alistattribute, as explained in Adding a MailerPress Form with Your Page Builder. - Contact Count: the number of contacts with this tag.
You can search tags and sort them by name or ID.
Edit or delete a tag
- To rename a tag, open its actions menu, choose Edit tag, change the name and click Save.
- To delete a tag, choose Delete tag in its actions menu and confirm. To delete several, select them and use the Delete bulk action. The tag is removed from your contacts; the contacts are kept.

Tag your contacts
- One contact: open the contact, go to Audience, and click Edit next to Tags.
- Several contacts: on All Contacts, select them and choose Edit contacts > Assign tag(s).
- During a CSV import: choose tags at the List & Tag Your Contacts step (see Import and export contacts with a CSV file).
- Automatically: with the Add Tag and Remove Tag steps of an automation (see Create Automated Email Workflows).
Once your contacts are tagged, filter the contact list by Tags, or use the Contact Tag condition in a segment with MailerPress Pro (see Manage Your Segments).
