Manage access to MailerPress features by WordPress role

Access Control lets you choose, for each WordPress role (Administrator, Editor, Authorโ€ฆ), which parts of MailerPress its users can reach. For example, let a copywriter draft campaigns without sending them, give an assistant access to contacts only, or open AI tools to editors. Everything is managed from one screen, with no extra role editor plugin.

This feature requires MailerPress Pro 2.1.0 or later. Only administrators can see and change it.

Open Access Control

Go to MailerPress > Tools and open the Access Control tab. Without MailerPress Pro, this tab only presents the feature.

Permissions are listed in four groups. In each group, every editable role of your site (including custom roles added by other plugins) has its own row, with a counter such as โ€œ3 of 5 enabledโ€.

Change the permissions of a role

  1. In the group you want to change, find the roleโ€™s row.
  2. Tick or untick each permission. To change a whole group at once, use Enable all or Clear on the roleโ€™s row.
  3. Repeat for other roles and groups if needed.
  4. Click Save settings. A message confirms which roles were updated.

Changes apply to every user with that role. Users who already have MailerPress open must reload the page to get their new access.

Protected permission

Roles that can manage your WordPress site settings, such as Administrator, always keep Manage settings. The checkbox is greyed out and marked Protected, so you can never lock every administrator out of MailerPress settings.

Restore the defaults

Click Restore all defaults, then Save settings, to reset every role to its original access. By default, access follows what each role can already do in WordPress: for example, Editors can manage campaigns, contacts, lists and tags, but only Administrators can manage settings, delete contacts, manage templates and use AI.

Examples

  • Let editors use AI: in the Settings group, tick Use AI for Editor. Editors can then use the AI writing and image tools in the email editor.
  • Draft but donโ€™t send: for Author, keep Manage campaigns and untick Publish campaigns.
  • Protect your audience: for Editor, keep Manage contacts but untick Delete lists and Delete tags.

Good to know

  • On a multisite network, changes apply only to the current site.
  • Your choices are kept when MailerPress is updated. Without Access Control, changes made to MailerPress permissions with another role editor plugin can be reset by a MailerPress update.
  • If you deactivate MailerPress Pro, all roles go back to the default access. Your choices are saved and applied again when you reactivate MailerPress Pro.
